While many people might have heard of the term ‘emerging markets’, there are relatively few who understand much beyond the basic financial implication associated with the term. In this post, Jeff Chowdhry provides some basic information about emerging markets.

According to Jeff Chowdhry, emerging markets include countries that may become developed markets as well as those that have previously been developed markets. Today, the economies of China (save Hong Kong and Macau) and India are the world’s largest emerging markets.

In terms of investment, emerging markets provide opportunities for investors to invest in, according to Jeff Chowdhry.

Two ways in which investors can invest in emerging markets, says Jeff Chowdhry, include buying into emerging markets themselves, or buying into global funds.

Jeff Chowdhry continues, emerging markets are listed by numerous institutions, including; Columbia University (Emerging Market Global Players, ‘EMGP’); International Monetary Fund; FTSE Group; MSCI; S&P; Russell; Frontier Strategy Group; Dow Jones; Frontier Strategy Group; Emerging Market Index.

The following countries are listed as emerging markets on the F10 list of Frontier Strategy Group: China, Brazil, India, Mexico, Russia, Indonesia, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Turkey.

Jeff Chowdhry is the Head of Emerging Market Equities at F&C Asset Management, a position he has held since 1994. Before that, he was Director and Portfolio Manager at BZW Investment Management Ltd. Jeff Chowdhry attended the Kingston Business School, where he earned a Master of Business Administration.
